Belinda Syokau Kimondo #PressforProgress
I am involved in financial planning/capital budgeting/statutory management at Plast Packaging Industries Limited.
I have grown with Plast Packaging Industries Limited since I joined in February 2012. I was once the only staff member in accounts/finance department. A lot of procedures and systems were lacking back then but now things are in place.
Our accounts and finance department has now grown and I have a team of 4 working under me. Responsibilities have also grown; whereas the accounts department used to serve a staff force of about 30 people back then, we are now serving a staff force of about 180.
An eye opener for me both personally and professionally was when I was involved in the strategic planning process for our organization, right from implementation to execution. We are now in the second year of the strategic plan phase and in my role I look at everything from the bigger picture. I have also been attending training offered by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Financial Management
We do work as a family and when one person has a problem we all come together to help out. We occasionally go for team building sessions which bring us together.
The late Wangari Maathai is one Kenyan woman that inspires me-she left a mark in the world. A brave woman who stopped at nothing. I encourage my fellow Kenyan women to believe in their own capabilities and strengths.
Our Subsidiary, Plast Packaging Industries Limited is a signatory of The UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP), a set of principles for business offering guidance on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
The International Women’s Day 2018 campaign theme is: #PressforProgress. We join the global movement to help women make positive gains day by day.
