My name is JemimahRose Muthoni, am 22 years old and I work at Plast Packaging Industries Ltd as a Production Operator under training.

When I joined Plast Packaging Industries Ltd in July 2017, I initially had the challenge of familiarizing myself with all the different company products. I also needed to adjust to the time schedules for shift work duty on the floor.

With time I learnt the various products and overcame the challenge, and since then I have grown in my roles and responsibilities. I can be able to run some of the machines and I am happy that my current trainee role will position me for growth.

Some of the skills I have learnt and acquired while on the job are knowledge on occupational safety and health, fire safety and first aid. Safety is important in everything we do and to understand that helped me align myself better by observing the right practices.

With my earnings from Plast Packaging Industries Limited I have been able to support my family. At my work place, the team work from my colleagues makes us one family as well; young and old, male and female.

I admire Julie Gichuru because she is ambitious. I would like to tell my fellow Kenyan women that all women should first believe in themselves and then work hard so as to be able to rely on themselves.

Our Subsidiary, Plast Packaging Industries Ltd is a signatory of The UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP), a set of principles for business offering guidance on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.

The International Women’s Day 2018 campaign theme is: #PressforProgress. We join the global movement to help women make positive gains day by day.
